THE FURNACE

A PLACE WHERE THE ELUSIVE MATTER IS SHAPED BY SKILLED HANDS

WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS

Fusato Signoretti Family opens the doors of the furnace to offer its guests a unique experience. Attending the glass process, admiring the Masters’ skill closely and sharing the emotion the Furnace arouses means discovering the most authentic soul of Murano.

Watching a Master while he shapes the substance in the fire is one of the most fascinating spectacles one can witness. The shapes seem to come out of nowhere as if by a magic made of fire and skillful gestures.

From fusion…

From the sands in different mixtures with different pigments, glass melts in ovens reaching over 1,000 degrees of temperature.

… through skillful gestures …

The master glassmakers blow, model, bend, combine and cut with an extraordinary skill, reaching forms of remarkable elegance and great refinement.

.. a work of art is born

The incandescent mass of molten glass becomes a bubble and then takes shape and becomes a unique and unrepeatable work of art.

THE TOOLS

Different tools to work Murano glass are typical: the best known tool is the blowpipe, a long metal tube used to blow the air into the molten mass just taken out of the oven. Each master has his own personal tools he always carries with him.

Wooden or cast iron molds are also used, they refer to a very ancient technique. The tools for glass processing have remained the same inside the furnace over the centuries, testimony to the craftsmanship and tradition that Murano glass products still contain.
